If you want to explore one of the oldest cultures in Bolivia and South America, join us and you will understand the differences between the Tiwanaku, Aymara, and Inca cultures. Tiwanaku is an archaeological site recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, located just 72 km from the city of La Paz. This ancient culture originated around 1580 B.C. and disappeared around 1-200 A.D. It was an advanced civilization in agriculture, architecture, ceramics, medicine, engineering, astronomy, and mathematics.
Puma Punku, whose name in Aymara means “Gate of the Puma,” is a mound with huge blocks of stone carved from red sandstone, some of which are estimated to weigh 131 metric tons. It is believed to have been adorned with beautiful plates of polished metal.
Between 8:00 and 9:00 in the morning, we pick up passengers at hotels in the city center and head to the town of Tiwanaku for approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. We will visit the 4 important sites of Tiwanaku: the Lithic Museum, the Ceramic Museum, and the archaeological complex where you can see the Akapana Pyramid, the Semi-Subterranean Temple, and the Kalasasaya Temple. Then, we will enjoy a delicious typical lunch from the region before continuing with the visit to the archaeological site of Puma Punku.
